ANTHEM "THUS CONQUER WE MUST, WHEN OUR CAUSE IS JUST, AND
THIS BE OUR MOTTO: 'IN GOD WE TRUST.' AND THE STAR

FREE AND THE BRAVE." MUST BE "LEAVING A BITTER TASTE IN
AMERICAN MOUTHS. (FOR) DESPITE TOUGH WORDS, THERE HAS SO
FAR BEEN NO 'TRIUMPH' FOR THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER.
THE PAPER THEN RECOUNTED THE EVENTS OF THE PAST WEEK,
INCLUDING THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT ATTACK ON THE CAFE IN SAN
SALVADOR AND PRESIDENT REAGAN'S DECLARATION THAT THE "U.S.
MUST ACT AGAINST INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM. HOWEVER IT
NOTED THAT PERHAPS AS AMERICANS WATCHED NEWSCASTS AND
READ NEWSPAPER REPORTS OF THE SAN SALVADOR BLOODBATH AND
THE HOSTAGE DRAMA UNFOLDING IN BEIRUT, THEY RECALLED WHAT
WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN LARRY SPEAKES SAID WHEN ASKED WHAT
THE U.S. RESPONSE TO THE MARINE COMPOUND BOMBING WOULD BE:
'ALL I CAN SAY TO THEM IS WAIT AND SEE, AMERICA IS STILL
WAITING."
IN A RELATED ARTICLE, "AMERICANS POLLED BY LONG-DISTANCE
TELEPHONE YESTERDAY CALLED FOR VIOLENT REVENGE AGAINST
SHITE TERRORISTS HOLDING U.S. HOSTAGES IN BEIRUT." THOSE
REPONSES INCLUDED:
SAID JOHN FOLEY OF POTTSVILLE PA. "SOMEPLACE ALONG THE
LINE YOU HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE ONCE THE HOSTAGES ARE OUT
OF THERE, THERE SHOULD BE SOME FORM OF RETALIATION
ISRAEL HAS THE RIGHT IDEA
"KILL THE GUYS,' SAID JEFF BILODEAU OF MOBILE ALA.
OTHERWISE IT MAKES US LOOK WEAK
"I FEEL THAT PRESIDENT REAGAN IS DOING THE RIGHT THING BY
NOT TRYING TO RESCUE THE HOSTAGES SAID RACHEL FIELDER OF
HOUSTON TX."
⑉ MEANWHILE THE NEW YORK POST HAS ASKED READERS TO DRIVE
WITH THEIR HEADLIGHTS ON TO SHOW THEIR OUTRAGE. . THE
REACTION IS VERY STRONG PEOPLE ARE ANGRY THEY RE SAYING
"I'M TIRED OF HEARING NOTHING CAN BE DONE."
IN A MAN IN THE STREET TYPE POLL, CANADIANS ALSO EXPRESSED
STRONG SENTIMENTS SAYING "THEY SHOULD GET THE HOSTAGES OUT
AND CAPTURE THE TERRORISTS. NEVER GIVE IN TO TERRORISTS"
AND NEGOTIATE BUT "BE FIRM."
