- 2 - As he is now treating a number of other cases he said he must be paid ei ther by us or someone and if we were not interested in hie proposition he proposed to sue a number of his patients for large amounts and they in turn would sue us, in which latter event there would be no settlements out of court and he would guarantee that we would lose such sui ts as a result of his testimony against us. as On being asked whether he was 8. physici an and not a dentist he replied not "no as far 8.8 S license is concerned" but that he had studied medicine in 11 college during hie dental course and had had practical hoepital work for the past 23 years and that he knew more about medicine than many deetors. He stated that he had court experience as a witness and that he could testify in any way that he wanted and not be successfully controverted. As he was recognized as an expert in this work he thought that a majority of the girls who had been in the employ of the Radium Company would come to zim. He stated that if we played ball with him he would not tell thege patients that he was being paid by u.s. He stated that if we wanted his services it was essential that we pay him $10,000 and that he was a very valuable man for the Company to have with then. He explained how a dentist must protect his reputation and how he had by threats prevented certain clients from bringing suit. Mr. Cross then said #unleas you are pai $ 10,000 you are in a position to make a lot of trouble for us but if we do pay you the $10,000 you will help us". Dr. Knef replied "yes he could help us and his proposition was not blackmail ei ther." Mr. Roeder said to Dr. Knef "your proposition is absolutely Company immoral and the/sill have nothing whatever to do with it". Whereupon Dr. Knef gathered up his pictures and papers and left the room, saying we would meet again.
