Dear Ir. Forts-
Enclosed horowith you will find an article entitled
"Radio Active Material an Industrial Hazard1", by Dr. Froderick B. Flinn,
Ph. D., Assistant Professor of Physiology in Industrial Hygione, College
of Prysicions and Surgoons, Columbia University, which treats of the
so called *radium necrosis" or Tadium poisoning dases. The investigation
by Dr. which formed the basis of hie article, has boen by far the
most thorough and fnr reaching work undertaiten on this subject. This
article will appear in one of the early issues of the Journal of the
American Medical Association.
While it seems that the charga of poisoning
caused the death of several girls (which chazge was widely advertised
through the press a fer months ago) is entirely unfounded, wa naturally
hesitate - tithout further investigation - to make the broad statement
that radium in luadnous material ie although tra believe this
to be the case. Therefore, in order to be on the safe side, we caution
you, if you have not already done so, to order your operators not to
point their application brushes with their lips.
