Attention: Itr. E. n. Stringer Director of Manufacturing
Gentlemente
Enclosed herewith you will find an article entitled,
"Radio Activo Material an Industrial Hazard1", by Dr. Prederick B. Flinn,
Ph. D. , Assistant Professor of Physiology in Industrial Hygiene, College
of Physicians and Surgeons, Colunbia University, which treats of the
so called "radium necrosis" or radium poisoning casos. The investigation
by Dr. Flinn, which formod the basis of hia article, has been by far the
most thorough and far reaching work undertaken on this subject. This
article will appear in one of the early issues of the Journal of the
American Medical Association.
While it sooms that the charge of "radium poisoning"
caused the death of several girls (which charge was widely advertised
through the press a few nonths ago) is entirely unfounded, we naturally
hesitate - without further investigation - to maice the beoad statement
that radiun in luminous material is unharmful, although we believe this
to be the case. Therefore, in order to be on the safe side, we caution
you, if you have not already done so, to order your operators not to
point their application bruahes with their lips.
Thenever we receive any further information on the
subject, we shall be glad to pass it along to you.
Yours very truly,
President.
