Dr. s. C. Lind, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry,
University of Minnesota,
Minneapolis, Minn.
Dear Dr. Lind:
We are confronted with the proposition of building up a de-
fense against nome five odd suits brought against us by girls employed
in the application department of our operation, during the period of
1917-1921 inclusive.
In this connection, it in mite possible that it will be
necessary for us to establigh through ecientific means the status of the
art at that time, that is, in reference to any lmowledge which scientific
men might have had relative to any possible hazard connected with the ap-
plication of luminour material to watch and clock dials, etc, by brush.
We feel that we are being given a ride", as it were, by these
people, es they are bringing suits agninst us to the amount of $1,350,000,
and the tactica which they are using are not any too ethical. Depend-
ing upon the opinion of our counsel, it may be advisable for some of us
to
see
you within the course of the next ten days or two weeks relative
to this matter, with a view of outlining our future procedure. Our
immediate
object will be to ascertain your position on two or three scien-
tific pointe involved, only. I will, therefore, very mach appreciate
your advising us by wire, collect, as to where we can reach you during
the next two weeks.
lie trust that you will find it agreeable to render us this
service. With kind personal regards, I am
Sincerely,
VICE-PRESIDENT.
