necording to law, on his onth deposes and says:
1. I em a physician duly licensed to praction in the
State of New Jorsey and the ohier medical examiner of Essox
County, with offices at the Pathological Laboratory of the
Nowark City Hospital, damden Stroot, Newark, New Jorsey.
2. The death undox unusual cirounstances of a formor
worloor at the plant or the United States Radium Corporation,
as revealed by the autopay which I performed, interested
ma in the matter of the effect of radiosetivo substances on
the humen body, with the result that I, with the assistance
of others, mado an investigation and performéd various tests
and experiments, resulto of whioh were published on December
5th, 1925 in volume 85 or the Journal of the Amorioan Medional
Association, pages 1769 to 1776, under the head of "Some Une
recognized Dangere in the Use and Handling of Radionotivo
Substances with the Especial Reference to the Storage of In-
soluble Produots of Radiun and Mesthorium in the Retioulo
indotholial Systen."
3. Knowlodge of the nature and properties of redioage
tivo substances, particularly with reference to their effeot
on the husan body, 1a confined to a very limited number or
porsons who are skilled in both physics and chonistry. In
the modical world at large, the effect of padiosetivo sub-
on the humon system is not woll known. Thore is, how-
over, literature dealing with the danger of handling radio-
nativo substances which has been in existence for sone time,
which literaturo is available to those interested. Thore is
a reported caso of death in 1916 from the handling of radium
It has long beon the praotico in institutions where radio-
active aubstances are handled to protect the operatives by
