Mopre,Dean of Science,\nPurdue University,\nLafayette, Ind.\nDear Dr. Moore:\nYou will recall that last summer I wrote you a few\nlines relative to a possible interview with you in connection with\nlitigation in which we are now involved. Conditions at that time\nwere such that it was not practicable to see you, but these conditions\nhave now altered to where we propose to outline our position to you,\nand malce inquiry as to whether you would be disposed to come to our\nassistance in this matter.\nIn 1925 there were three law suits instigated, by girls\nemployed by us at one time or another, who clained that they were\nsuffering as a result of having used luminous material. The claim\nbeing that this material had been ingested into the system and deposited\nin the bone with progressively deleterious effects. At that time we\nwere instrumental in interesting several investigators in this problem.\nThese men have carried on rather extensive work during the last two\nyears, and have what we consider some rather valuable data. However,\nprior to the time that this work was completed the three suits in\nquestion were settled out of court for a rather nominal sum.\nWe rather felt that at the time these cases were settled\nthat the matter hed been closed, and that the chances were rather\nremote that any more suits would be instigated. However, in July\nof\nthis year there were instigated five (5) suits by girls who worked for\nus during the interim of 1917 to 1921. These girls claim that they\ndid not become aware of the nature of their injnries until July 1925 or\nthereafter. I believe that with the exception of one of these girls\nthe others claim to have suffered from one complaint or another not\nknowing what the cause of their trouble actually was.\nIf is of interest to note that these cases are all\nbeing prosecuted by the same attorney who is rather young in experience\nin the legal profession, and a man who was in the employ of our attorneys\nat the time we settled the suits with the girls in 1925.\nThese suits were brought in the Supreme Court and we\npleaded the statute of limitations, which in effect is that one is\ndebared from bringing suit against an employer after two years from the\ntime they received the injury.
