nesses by the Consumers' League of New Jersey, an organization interested primarily in the health of women and children in in- dustry, which organization received the co-operation and assis- tance of Dr. Frederick L. Hoffman, a statistician. 31. That Dr. Frederick L. Hoffman, on a purely statis- tical basis on the ground that the complainants and their co- workers who were similarly ill had nothing else in common than their occupation, reported, a.s a result of his investigation, that the workers at the United States Redium Corporation were in- jured as a result of their occupation, presumably from radium and mesothorium, in May 1925. 32. That Dr. Cecil K. Drinker, who was refused per- mission to publish his report by the radium corporation which had paid for his services, informed the Department of Labor of New Jersey of the situation a.s reported in his report to the radium corporation with the request that said report, which was in the possession of the United States Radium Corporation, be demanded by the New Jersey Department of Labor from the United States Radium Corporation. 33. That upon demand of the Drinker report by the Department of Lebor from the United States Redium Corporation, the radium corporation wrote to the New Jersey Department of Labor, sending what purported to be a copy of the Drinker report, but which was not the Drinker report and which exonerated the corporation so far as injury to its workers was concerned. 34. That said reply of the United States Radium Cor- poration to the demand of the New Jersey Department of Labor was communicated to Dr. Drinker who informed the New Jersey De- partment of Labor that it had been deceived and a true copy of the report was subsequently obtained by the Department of Labor in June of 1925. 9
