UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY May 5, 1928 Mr. H. H. Barker United States Radium Corporation 8361 L 535 Pearl Street to New York City My dear Barker: Enclosed herewith you will find three copies of manu- soript covering the major part of the experimental work which Dr. Flinn and I jointly carried out during my recent visit to New York City. The three manuscripts are entitled: The Examination for radio-activity of 5 Complainants against the United States Radium Corporation; (2) Experi- mental Determination of Radium present in Living Persons; and (3) Mis- cellaneous experiments conducted in Dr. Flinn's Laboratory, College of Physicians and Surgeons, 168th Street, New York City, April 25, 1928. I am also sending a copy of these experiments to Dr. Flinn direct and I am sending to him, too, the note-book in which are recorded the original data upon which these reports are based. I may add that I have an extra copy of each of these reports which will be at your command. It seems to me that we ought to conduct a few experi- ments to test the photographic action of radioactive bones under the condi- tions which Dr. Martin reported. The object of these experiments would be to determine whether the positive effects which Dr. Martin doubtless obtained were due to the radioactivity of the sample under test or were the result of pressure and chemical changes occurring during the exposure in the calcine bone. You mentioned that you had in discard a Wulf Quartz Fiber electroscope of the type which we used in our tests and which has been out of commission for sometime I hope that you will be kind enough to forward that to our laboratory and we shall try to introduce some new quartz fiber , If you have on hand samples of the ore used by the Belgium Syndicate for extracting radium, I would appreciate greatly getting some specimens- not exhibition specimens, but material which we could ac- tually use for experimental purposes, run of the mine material. I have a graduate student working for the doctorate degree on the extrattion of prot ac Jinium and some experiments conducted with these Belgium ores would no doubt give us some very important data. I hope that you have received the stop watch in a good condition. If there is anything that I can do for you at this time, please write. In reading the reports you will notice that there are several places where we suggest additional experiments. I hope that these can be under- taken. With very kind regards, I remain Sincerely yours, Herman Schlundt
