October 25th,1928. Dr. Hermen Schlundt, University of Missouri, Room 110 New Chemistry Bld Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: I will herewith endeavor to confirm matters discussed by 'phone this morning, and explain in a little more detail what we are up against in the electroscopic test of the 5 girls. Dr. Fialla examined Mrs. Hussman on October 15th, and found, using our calibration of the Wulf quarta fiber eledtrometer, 10.6 micrograms. On october 18th, he examined Miss Fryer and found the equivalent of 14 micrograms. It is my understanding that these girls were requested to report to Memorial Hospital for electroscopic tests. After finding these two girls radioactive, Dr. Fialla called us advising of his results, and wondering what our disposition was in the matter, inasmuchas we had previously told him that we had found these girla inactive. I have discussed the matter with Dr. Fialia and we are agreed that we must make a very thorough examination and that such examination shall consist of testing the girls as they report to the hospital, then having then disrobe, take a bath, put on garments supplied to then by us, and repeat the test. In the event that they are still found active it is our disposition to hospitalize one - the case containing the largest amount and ascertaining what the rate of elimination is. I am confident that Dr. Fialla feels that there is a possibility of the girls intentionally carrying small amounts of some radioactive material to produce a positive test on the electroscope. Dr. Fialla's one desire in this work is to make these tests in such e manner that they will bè thoroughly satisfactory to us, and that we will not have to keep going over the same ground repeatedly. As I understand it their present program is to ask the five girls to report to Memorial Hospital some day during the week of October 2ath. Dr. Fiella will take a suite of rooms in a hotel nearby end request that one girl at a time be sent to this suite for examination without knowledge to the othor girls as to what is to be done. As he has completed his tests on one andecond girl will be requested to repart to him, etc., until all have been tested. In the event that the
