Dr. Herman Schlundt,
303 Hicks Ave.,
Columbia, No.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
Dr. Thompson, Assistant to the Surgeon
General, called at our offices yesterday, and in discussing
plans for the conference in Washington on December 20th, we
suggested that you be invited to attend, and Dr. Thompson
stated that he would have the Surgeon General wire you an invi-
tation this morning. However, if for any reason your invita-
tion should not be received, you are prefectly welcome to attend
as our guest.
We wired you this morning as follows:
"BERRY REFUSES EXAMINATION STOP WILL PAY YOUR
EXPENSES TO ATTEND CONFERENCE WASHINGTON THURSDAY
MORNING STOP IMPORTANT YOU ATTEND STOP MR LEE AND
I WILL BE AT HOTEL WASHINGTON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AROUND
EIGHT THIRTY WIRE PLANS. 11
lr. Berry advises Mr. Smith that he will not
grant the privilege of examination except by court procedure, and
Mr. Smith advises that he expects to file application for a hear-
ing on this matter next Saturday, a week from today. If the
privilege of examination is granted we can then set a date for
same.
We believe that we aroused Dr. Thompson's interest
in your work connected with the measurement of small amounts of
radioactive materials in living persons, and for this reason are
extremely anxious that you should attend this conference. Unfort-
unately we feol that Dr. Flinn's position is not going to be as
strong as we would like to have it at this conference, and for this
reason would like to be fortified with your knowledge.
In case you desire to come to New York for a con-
ference with Dr. Fialla on the work which you have been doing
recently we would be glad to have you exercise your own judgment in
this matter. We have not had any conferences mith Dr. Failla
recently, and I believe you are fully advised on the matter as it now
stands.
Anticipating the pleasure of seeing you on Thursday
of next week; I am
Sincerely yours,
Vice President.
