January 18th, 1929.
Mr. A. B. Lee,
United States Radium Corp
,
535 Pearl Street,
New York, N. Y.
Dear Mr Lee :-
We have received Dr. Flinn's report covering examination of
the girls in our Radium Dial Department conducted January 7th, 8th,
and 9th. The report is very rosy and indicates no signs of radio-
activity and a general improvement in the condition of all of the girls.
Whether the general improvement in their condition is due to the
constant treatment received from the gamma rays and the vitalizing
effects of breathing radon has not been determined. However, if
the reports of the condition of the girls is an indication we would
recommend dial work for invalids in order to build them up.
We are particularly interested in writing to call attention
to the following paragraph in Dr. Flinn's report:-
"The ideal si tuation would be to prepare the paint fresh
each morning in which case there would be no gamma rays given
off at all. This together with the elimination of the habit
of pointing the brush between the lips should render the
industry as safe as any other part of your work if not safer.
However this cannot be done in a factory like yours.
If at any time you wish to go over the copy of the report which
he undoubtedly has in New York you, of course, have our permission
to do so.
Very truly yours,
THE E. INGRAHAM COMPANY
