January 31st,1929. Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: I had a conference with Dr. Ewing and Dr. Failla this morning, relative to continuing, or rather completing, the examination of the five girls. Dr. Ewing is quite willing that two of these cases should be hospitalized, and such tests conducted on the girls, as vell as their excretia, as we deen advisable. Dr. Failla will not be availablefom Wednesday of next week until Wednesday of the folloring week, that is February 13th, and we have, therefore, tentatively set February 13th, as the day to start this work. The girls will probably be confined to the Fifth Avenue Hospital, for as you recall we we did not think the Memorial satisfactory for this type of work - I have advised itr. Markley that we would like to have the examination of Mrs. Canfield conducted sometime between February 8th and the 12th, preferably on either the 11th or 12th, which will make it possible for you to complete this work in the shortest time. From my discussion with Dr. Failla I gather that he will expect to conduct the emanation determination on the excretia while you are here. It seems to me that the instruments in the possession of Dr. Flinn will be satisfactory for this purpose. The only thing that will be required will be a standard radimm solution for calibration of this instrument. I em in hopes that you have available such a solution and can bring saue with you, as you appre- clate any solution shich we might prepare might not be satisfactry. I am advising you regarding this program so that you can make any preparations necessary. I also told Dr. Eving that I would let him know not later than Monday, February 4th, whether you would be available on Feb. 13th, and therefore, wish you would reply to this letter either by wire or Air Mail. Dr. Failla wishes to thank us for sending him the book upon the subject of Mesothorium and Radium, copy of which you apparently sent. I was not aware that one of those books had gone forward. Sûncerely yours, HHBarker:RH Vice President.
