Dr. James E. Eves,
Room 1-23 Bldg.,
16th Seventh St., S.W.
Washington, D.C.
Dear Dr. Ives:
Your letter of March 12th, is at hand.
The instrument which we have ordered from
Gunther & Tegatmeyer is of the Tulf-Hess Bifilar type. This
instrument was ordered on September 13th, and as I advised
you in my letter of yesterday, is to be shipped from Brunschweig,
Germany on March 15th. Our experience is that these people
are very slow in making delivery of any equipment ordered.
I am familar with the ordinary Wulf type of
instrument as well as with the Wulf-Hess, but have no knowledge
relative to the Kolhoester type. While I do not doubt that
this type is more sensitive than the Wulf-Hess, the point to be
considered for your work would be the portability of the
instrument - that is it would be best not to attempt to use an
instrument which was so sensitive that considerable technique
would be involved in setting up the instrument for work.
We
have found the Wulf-Hess instrument sensitive and very reliable,
With the added feature that it is portable, and it requires
practically little or no adjustment prior to use.
We shall advise you as soon as the instrument now
on order has arrived.
Very truly yours,
Vice President.
