Mr. H. H. Barker
U. S. Radium Corporation

Dear Howard:
We have put on a new man in our crystallizing
laboratory to become familiar with the technique and care
which must be taken. He is directly responsible to Dr.
Breckenridge and Lloyd Thomas. The latter has been at
work in the orystallizing laboratory for fully a year
now, and has shown himself to be a very reliable man.
We hope that this new man, judging by his scholar ship
and performances in laboratory experimentations, will
prove equally trustworthy and careful. In other words
we just wish to tell you that we are just about ready
to begin operations on the coneentrates which we ex-
pect to refine for you.
Since we shall try to extract the radiothorium
which has accumulated in some of your samples, I hope
that you will be kind enough to mark the bottlessin which
mesothorium is present.
Tomorrow I expect to send on to Dr. Moore the
book of papers bearing on the Radium-Poisoning us cases.
I
have gone over these papers and have selected certain
pages which seemed to have a direct bearing on the pending
case. These pages I have had copied and I shall send on
to you a complete transcript and I shall also send one
copy to Mr. Markley.
With you I would like to raise this question:
Would it not be advisable for you to prepare a brief
statement of the principal points involved in the court
case? In view of the chance that the case will finally
go to the Supreme Court, it seems to me that a complete
statement of the facts set down in simple language will
ultimately become the instrument upon which the court
must rely for a decision, and I believe that your statement
at.
would present the main points issuea, probably more pre-
cisely and logically than the attorneys' view of the case.
I am simply making this as e suggestion.
With very good wishes, I remain
Yours sincerely,
Herman Schlendt
HS/GMA.
Herman Schlundt.
