COPY. NEW JERSEY ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL AND DISPENSARY 179-181 Lincoln Avenue, Orange, N.J. April 26th, 1930. Re: Hoare V. U. S. Radium Corporation. Mr. E. A. Markley, Collins & Corbin, 1 Exchange Place, Jersey City, N.J. My dear Mr. Markley:- Mrs. James Hoare came to this Dispensary June 5th, 1928, complaining of pain in her back, wrist and both knees, giving a history of having worked for the Radium Corporation ten years previously. We found on examination that she had pain in joints, some limitation of motion in her spine, but so far have not been able to demonstrate necrosis of the long bones. And now that I am writing you I would like to have a little information in return. I am at present treating a patient who has extensive radium necrosis in both hips, and so far she has not consulted any lawyers but I think she should have some compensation. If you care to settle this case out of court I should be glad to go over the X-rays with you or with anyone you might suggest, and turn them over to you as I am doing this because I believe it would be better for the patient if the thing could be handled without going to court. Thanking you for your kindness and with kindest regards, I remain Very truly yours, (Signed) ROBERT E. HUMPHRIES C.J. Robert E. Humphries, M. D., Surgeon-in-Chief. REH: CMJ
