Dr. H. H. Barker
U. S. Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York
Dear Dr. Barker:
In reply to your question whether or not
I can participate in making electroscopical examination
for radioactivity of two or three girls whose cases will
probably come up in the courts, or settlement through
Dr. Flinn, let me say that I shall be glad to come on
soon after the close of our regular session which will
be on June 3rd.
In this connection let me mention an item
which may be of interest to you in arranging the date for
this examination. A week or two ago I had a note from
Dr. Failla stating that there would probably be in the
near future a meeting of the Advisory Committee for
U. S. Public Health Survey of Radium Dial Painters.
Perhaps you could get in touch with Dr. Failla with a
view of getting some information concerning the probability
of this conference. By arranging a time for the exam-
ination of the cases which would come close to this
date, we would save both time and expense.
A few more words with regard to the
Mesothorium situation. The Lindsey Light Company's
Mesothorium concentrates are not being consolidated
with the Welsbach supply and I think that a year or more
has elapsed since the Lindsey Light Company disposed of
its supply which I understand is now being shipped abroad.
Monazite sand is being treated, however,
in the East for the manufacture of Thorium Nitrate and
there is a possibility that this new source of supply
of Mesothorium will be refined in this country. I hope
to have a little further information on this sub ject by
the time I come to New York.
In short, then, you may count on my
presence in making the tests and I hope that you will
take steps towards fixing the date.
With very good wishes and kind regards,
I remain
Yours very truly
