AIR MAIL
Dr. H. H. Barker
United States Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York City, New York
My dear Barker:
Your letter just received stating that the
Commission has decided to give these girls alleged to
be suffering from radium poisoning the parathormone
treatment is indeed good news to me. I regard this as
a rather crucial experiment.
In preparing a discussion of the elimination
of radium from two of these girls for the paper that Dr. .
Failla and I now have ready I had occasion to refer one
paragraph of it to Dr. Hessler for criticism; and I men-
tioned to her the proposed experiment with the four girls.
She at once made the suggestion not to omit the determina-
tion of the vital capacity and basal metabolic state of
the girls before administering the parathormone treatment.
She further suggested two persons in New York City who are
qualified to cooperate in making these tests: Dr. Grace
Mac Leod, Teachers College, Columbia University; Dr.
Eugene Du Bois, Cornell Medical College, (Bellevue Hospital.)
I shall do my very best to cooperate with the
Commission in this experiment.
With very good wishes, I remain,
Yours sincerely,
Herman Schlunott
