May 5th,1931. Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: I seriously doubt whether you would be able to intereste Dr. Fialla in conducting any further gan a ray tests upon the 4 girls under the Committee's supervision. Dr. Fialla has many interests and probably feels that this work is rather out of his line, also that the results would be subject to criticism, and therefore, does not care to carry on any more than necessary. I understand that he did make a test upon Miss Fryer and the results indicated that there may have been a slight decrease in the amount of radium contained, but the decrease was so small that it is possible that it would come within the range of experimental error. Dr. Craver indicated that it might possibly have been as much as 2 micrograms, but Dr. Fialla did not feel the results were positive enough to make any definite assertion along this line. The intelligence of most of these girls is not very high, and it is difficult to get their cooperation in these matters. hey seem to take the attitude of resistence to any program suggested, and with the exception of liss Fryer, it is almost impossible to get their cooperation by explaining what you are trying to do. Miss Schaub is confined at an institution in New Jersey, and I understand that her future outlook is not very bright. She is unable to care for herself wholly, and Dr. Craver expects Metastisis of the lungs to set in almost any time. It is possible that someti when you are in New Yor you may have the opportunity of examining these girls thru the coopera- tion of the Committee.
