Mr. H. H. Barker
United States Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York City, New York
My dear Barker:
I have just had a note from Dr. Failla
stating that our paper which we sent in to The Journal of
Roentgenology will probably appear in the August issue.
This paper must have been filed away for a time in the
editor's files for it was only recently that Dr. Failla
made inquiry about the paper, and got some word about itsacceptance.
The other day in reading the report of the
United States Public Health Service I thought again of
the application for patent which we left in the hands of
your patent attorneys. Have you heard whether or not any
progress has been made with this application or have you
about decided to abandon making this application for pa-
tent on the reduction of hazards in the radium dial paint-
ing industry.
Although the temperature here is in the
neighborhood of 95° and a little better, the boys are at
work in the refining laboratory and I went over there
this morning to see them and found that they were making
good progress in their work but I could not tell just
when you may expect the next shipment of a tube of radium
bromide. Dr. Breckenridge, however, is quite anxious to
get through with this job and I assume that the boys will
keep at it now until the work is finished up.
We noticed in the paper the other day that
Mrs. LaPorte had died of sarcoma of the hip bone. She is
one of the radium cases. Did we ever make any determina-
tions for activity on Mrs. LaPorte? I do not seem to re-
call her name.
With very good wishes, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlun #
Herman Schlundt.
