preforming at our various establishments in the City of New York, in the
portion of our property known es 422 Alden Street. lie can assure you that
we have no intentions or do not propose to carry on operations of a nature
such as those which we preformed at this place of business on or before 1925.
Referring particularly to the extraction of radium, uranium and vanadium from
virgin ores.
We at one time engaged a large number of girls for the application
of luminous material to watch and clock dials. However, around the years
1920 or 121 our agents instructed the various clock companies as to the method
of applying this material to their instruments, and since that time they have
been preforming this type of operation in their own plants, thereby eliminat-
ing the time and loss involved in shipping watches to our factory, which in
turn had to be returned to them. lie do, however, have a small staff consist-
ing of four (4), in the application of luminous material to instrument dials
and electrical gadgets. lie would propose to bring this type of work back
to our factory.
lie also have a laboratory located in the Berg building on Jefferson
Street, which laboratory we would propose to consolidated with our other
operations.
In the event that you are disposed to so classify our property as
to enable us to odcupy same, the combined operations of the Weksler Thermometer
Gorporation and our own will employ between 40 and 50 people, the majority of
whom will be engaged in the thermoneter phose of our work.
Our present plan contemplates the development of the thermoseter
business and we con eventually see where we might be employing hundreds of
people in this phase of the work alone. The operations involved in the
thernometer business are clean out and should not be objectionable from the
standpoint of our neighiors.
We would be glad to have you inspect any or all of our various
operations located at the above referred to addresses, and satiafy yourselves
as to the nature of work which wo are doing.
Ne trust that you will give our request favorable consideration, and
wish to assure you thnt you will have our fullest cooperation in giving you
all information possible as to the nature and type of work which we should
like to carry on in our property.
It may be of interest to you to know that in the event your commiss-
ion so rules that it will be possible for us to reoccupy this property, we
will doubtless improve same materially by removing the old building on the
corner of High and Alden Streets,as well as the old house in front of the one
story concrete block building on the liest side of our property. We would alao
propose to improve the property 8.3 to painting and repair of other buildings,
and keeping the grounds in nore presentable shape. All of mhich ahould
be
an improvement to the general neighborhood.
Respectfully Yours,
HHBarkersRH
Vice President.
