GLOBE INDEMNITY COMPANY NEW YORK 150 WILLIAM STREET NEW YORK CITY W.H. GALENTINE GENERAL ATTORNEY March 3, 1932. Mr. C. B. Lee, President, U. S. Radium Corporation, MAR 4 1932 535 Pearl Street, New York City, New York. Dear Mr. Lee: RE: 7562-621 HOARE vs U. S. RADIUM CORPORATION. Mr. Markley's letter of February 25th has just been sent on to me and apparently there is some danger that this case will be moved ahead on the calendar. When it appeared that a settlement could be made for $3,000, I thought it would be good riddance to dispose of it for that amount. Now, Mr. Markley says that he thinks it could be settled for $5,000, possibly $4,000. As a matter of fact, this case has never impressed me as having very much value, and at the time I agreed to a $3,000 settlement, I thought that amount was about all the case was worth. It seems to me that Mr. Markley should obtain a definite settlement figure from plaintiff's attorney. The present basis of negotiation is likely to cause plaintiff's attorney to increase his demand, and we may be confronted with a demand that will be much in excess of what we think we should pay. I have just sent a memorandum to Mr. Charles Stockdell Gray, requesting additional investigation, for the purpose of fortifying ourselves as much as possible in case the demand goes up substantially. I shall be glad to have your views as to the settlement of this case. Yours very truly, 299-G. GENERAL ATTORNEY.
