Request for Radium Study
In Industry Gains Recruits
The public health relations commit-
tee of the New York Academy of Medi-
cine; the National Consumers' League
and the American Association for Labor
Legislation added their voices yesterday
to the appeal being made to Surgeon
General Hugh S. Cumming, of the
United States Public Health Service for
a nation-wide study of the use of ra-
dium in industry.
Dr. Louis I. Harris, Commissioner of
Health, has written asking for the co-
operation of the Public Health Service
in a study of New York plants already
begun under his direction. During the
last three years fifteen deaths in New
Jersey and two in Connecticut have
bene traced to radium poisoning, it is
