4. Radium was determined in the residues by two or three of the standard mothods. (1), (2), 9 (3) e In most of the determinations the sample was first conpletely de=emanated by fusing it with potassium bisulfate, or solution in nitric acid. After the lapse of a week or two the emanation which had accumulated in the sealed sample was separated quantitatively, collected, and transforred to the ionization chamber of a calibrated electroscope. From the observed increase in the drift of the charged leaf of the electro- scope the small amount of radium present in the sample was then computed. Special care must be exercised in making radium deter- minations on samples such as these whose radium content is extremely small. Blank detorminations were made on all reagents used, and the laboratory used was one restricted to measurement of very low grade radioactive preparations. In Table 1, are summarized the analytical results obtained for the excrota from subject A covering a period of a week. A parallel series was detormined for subject B$ but the results area recorded in more condensed form. The second column givos the net weight of the minoral ash, and in the last column the radium content is recorded expressed in nicrowmicrograns (10-12 8.) (1) Lind, S. C.. Jour. Ind. Eng.
