S:\WPSHR\LEGCNSL\XYWRITE\CONSUMER\TABAC4 326 1 (C) if the preliminary finding under sub- 2 paragraph (B)(i) is affirmative, ensure that 3 rapid response and basic readjustment services 4 authorized under other Federal laws are made 5 available to the workers. 6 (c) REVIEW OF PETITIONS BY SECRETARY; CERTIFI- 7 CATIONS.- 8 (1) IN GENERAL.-The Secretary, within 30 9 days after receiving a petition under subsection 10 (b)(2)(B)(ii), shall determine whether the petition 11 meets the criteria described in subsection (a)(1). On 12 a determination that the petition meets the criteria, 13 the Secretary shall issue to workers covered by the 14 petition a certification of eligibility to apply for the 15 assistance described in subsection (d). 16 (2) DENIAL OF CERTIFICATION.-On the denial 17 of a certification with respect to a petition under 18 paragraph (1), the Secretary shall review the peti- 19 tion in accordance with the requirements of other 20 applicable assistance programs to determine if the 21 workers may be certified under the other programs. 22 (d) COMPREHENSIVE ASSISTANCE.- 23 (1) IN GENERAL.-Workers covered by a certifi- 24 cation issued by the Secretary under subsection 25 (c)(1) shall be provided with benefits and services S. 1415 RS April 29, 1998 (2:39 p.m.)
