MCI WorldCom
MCI WorldCom's Mass Markets Alpharetta Unit is in the process of developing a "Job
Readiness" training program for welfare recipients with two service providers, Goodwill
Industries of North Georgia and the Millennium Training Group. Atlanta's low
unemployment rate has forced employers to look to the future for staffing solutions. By
what doing it at
consulting with the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL), the partners have identified the
entry level positions in the Atlanta area with the highest projected growth rate through the
/year 2002, including: customer service, help desk, collections, telephone sales, credit card
promotions and general telemarketing. In an attempt to not be caught shorthanded and

understaffed, the pre-training program will prepare individuals for these growth positions by
determining the applicants strengths and placing them in a position best suited to those
strengths. Once the individuals are placed in a career track, they will receive general training
for that position, introducing participants to the job responsibilities and strengthening
identified weaknesses, particularly office-related soft skills. After participants have
successfully completed the program, including a one-week internship, they will be placed in a
participating company's training program to acclimate them to that company. The goal is for
companies to reduce attrition, improve retention, provide superior applicants, improve initial
productivity and enhance the work-life experience for the employee.
Site Possibilities: Event could serve as a launch for this program hosted on-site by Goodwill
or MCI WorldCom to announce the program or potentially introduce the first class of
