Introduction As a country, we must fight cancer on all fronts; through prevention, through treatment, and through the continuing search for scientific breakthroughs and cures. Fortunately, we live in a wonderful time, when our knowledge of cancer and how to fight it is growing by leaps and bounds. Every day, researchers are stripping away the mysteries behind our genetic codes. This work will lead to a revolution in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment. Cancer is now often detected relatively late in its development and classified by its site of origin and appearance under a microscope. In the future, thanks to visionary new programs spearheaded by the National Cancer Institute, scientists will be able to unlock the mysteries of these hundred diseases we know as cancer and then ensure that they're translated into new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancers.
