RUSH-PRESBYTERIAN-ST. LUKE'S MEDICAL CENTER 1725 WEST HARRISON STREET SUITE 1106, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60612-3824 RUSH UNIVERSITY 312.942.5939 FAX: 312.942.2238 TRUSH DEPARTMENT OF NEUROLOGICAL SCIENCES June 29, 1998 Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20502 Dear Mrs. Clinton: I would like to personally invite you to visit us at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. Since our initial visit last month to the White House, where Susan Axelrod, Julie Ward and I met with your Associate Director for Domestic Policy, Ms. Neera Tanden, we have been encouraged by the White House support for our efforts in the field of epilepsy. It is our hope that you will be able to visit the Rush Epilepsy Center on one of your visits to the city of Chicago in the near future. I would like to suggest that you could dedicate the new Epilepsy Unit at Rush on the newly renovated wing of the hospital. The dedication ceremony would double as a fundraising reception for Advocates for Epilepsy, the group headed by Susan Axelrod, Debbie Flader and Nancy Monica, here at the hospital. The event, which can be arranged around your schedule, would draw the attention of the Chicago and national media and provide a forum for you to discuss some of the critical issues related to epilepsy. An area that could be addressed would be the problem of medically intractable epilepsy in children and the efforts and initiatives currently underway by federal, state and medical centers in response to these issues. We would be greatly honored by your presence and wish to extend our appreciation thus far for your concern and attention to a cause which means so much to our patients and their families.
