Dear Mrs. Clinton,
I recently read the Newsweek article about your Methodism and faith in God. In the
article, it mentioned that you are currently exploring the Sermon on the Mount and the
Beatitudes. The best book I have found on the subject is "The Sermon on the Mount"
by Emmett Fox. Even though the book was written in the 1930s, it does an outstanding
job of interpreting the biblical writings to a 20th century understanding. The book also
includes an excellent interpretation of the Lord's Prayer.
Even though I am a pro-choice Republican and your political views are more liberal
and socialistic than I can appreciate, I believe that you are well intended and I admire
your strength and determination. My heart goes out to you when I hear of unfair and
thoughtless attacks by the press. I believe that you are an excellent role model for
women who strive to maintain strong values and want to pursue meaningful work.
As a child, I watched the women's liberation movement and believed that the walls
limiting women in their career advancement were soon to be a thing of the past. I saw
limitless opportunities and worked hard to achieve an engineering degree and an
MBA. At 33, I hold a middle level management position in a traditionally male
dominated working environment. However, I am continually amazed at the subtle
levels of discrimination that are still in place, even in 1994. I realize that I have
obtained my position, due in part, to the ground breaking done by women who have
gone before me. I thank you for your leadership as you admirably pursue your goals
and continue to gradually change the opinions of our society, making things better for
coming generations.
