Thank you for your letter. I am moved that you chose
to share with me your experiences during and after the Long
Island Rail Road train tragedy. I understand that every
day is still a struggle for you. My deepest sympathy is
with you, your fellow passengers, and your loved ones.
While the process is understandably slow, I think that you
will regain confidence and trust in a secure and happy
life.
The President feels that the first duty of government
is to try to keep all of its citizens safe. He is
dedicated to this principle.

Dear Mrs. Clinton:
As a survivor of the December 7, 1993 5:33 p.m. Car #3 Long Island Rail Road train tragedy,
who is trying to deal with my emotional wounds, I appeal to you for your help in seeing that justice is
served. I was both shocked and dismayed unon reading about the V.I.P. treatment being afforded
Colin Ferguson in jail. You may already be aware of the numerous articles on this subject which have
appeared in The New York Times and Long Island Newsday.
My entire world has been shaken. I am unable to sleep nights, I am not able to relax, and I
live in constant fear of crime. Has our society degenerated to the point where people should fear for
their lives when travelling to and from their jobs? This tragedy could just as well have occurred in a
grocery store, a children's playground, a restaurant or a school.
I am writing this letter to you in order to attain some assurances. I will continue to feel
powerless until our elected representatives work to change the laws. This tragedy can never be put
behind me or my family. Those in power, can aide in helping us to put this atrocity in another place
in our thoughts. I believe the answer is to re-evaluate the issue of capital punishment and gun
control enforcement. You need to use all of your resources to have legislation enacted banning the
manufacture, distribution and sale of semi-automatic and automatic weapons. The issue now is not
how much political capital it will cost you to bring this to fruition, the issue is not to allow this tragedy
or one like it to occur ever again.
I was on car #3, the witnesses and victims of this premeditated massacre, need to be
reassured that we will play a role in the fate of Colin Ferguson. As our elected representative I
believe that it is your civic and moral obligation to see that this murderer (yes Mr. Gulotta, animal) is
given the maximum penalties for which he rightfully deserves. Please help me work to see justice
served, for the lost lives of innocent victims, and for those of us who will forever be physically and
emotionally scarred.
In closing, I appeal to you as a leader and a legislator who has the power to make and change
laws. Please do not abandon me and all of the other survivors and victims who were on the 5:33 pm
Car #3.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful letter. I was
saddened to read of your many years of anguish, but pleased
that you have been able to obtain help in dealing with
these feelings.
As you know, the President and I are in favor of a
woman's right to choose. We believe that each woman should
be allowed to make this intensely personal decision without
government interference. The President and I also believe
strongly that personal privacy is a fundamental right
guaranteed by our nation's constitution. However, as we
have both said on many occasions, we are pro-choice, not
pro-abortion. Education plays a tremendous role in
creating a country in which abortion is legal, safe and
rare.
Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with
me. The President and I derive a tremendous appreciation
of how today's complex issues affect Americans through
receiving letters such as yours.

As a victim of what I once considered "progressive thinking, If let
me assure you that I miss the two children that I aborted some 20
and 15 years ago every day of mv life To think now that I could
have allowed myself to kill my own two children is just too
horrible for me to imagine. But I thought that I had the right to
a "more fulfilled life and children, at that time, were not in MY
plan.
As for my fulfilled life yes. I was able to use my college
education and make some use of what I learned but somehow, I wish
I had made a. different choice: The choice for life for what could
have been two endearing human beings whom I could have loved and
hugged and watched as they grew to be responsible adults
Fortunately I have been able to get some counseling for my post
abortion crises through Crisis Pregnancy Center But for other
women like me, the pain is sometimes all too consuming I urge you
I plead with you I beg you to give consideration to other
potential mothers who if they were FULLY informed of their choice
to choose life rather than death would not elect to endure the
daily hell of what could have been. Please, please, please
Abortion is the most horrible of all mistakes.

much work is done by the government, what children will
continue to need most are adults, like you, who love them,

Dear Hilary,
As you know, children are abused and neglected in our country
every hour of the day. In most cases this abuse and neglect leads
children to grow into abusive and violent adults, as in the case of
Richard Allen Davis who abducted and murdered little Polly Klaas
here in our once quaint and trusting town of Petaluma. We are in
anguish. We are outraged.
Three days ago I called the police when I heard my neighbor abusing
his boys. The father is temporarily in jail, but for just $500 can be
released on bond to return home. The children, the mother and i are
at risk, we don't know what violent acts he might commit in anger at
being locked up. The "System" does not protect us. I've called
women's and men's groups for advice and help, and they've been
wonderful, but can do little to protect us. Only one of these groups is
government based and it has limited resources. The rest are non
profit, and are staffed by volunteers.
We need to be protected. The men need training and help to manage
their anger and change their behavior. We have to stop the abuse.
Please put these issues at the top of your list. Polly Klaas was not
protected by the system and now she is dead. This has to stop.
