the other members of the Hispanic Caucus
to discuss the vitally important topic of
health care reform.
I would like to assure you that the
task force is looking into the special
needs of the Territories including Puerto
Rico and the Virgin Islands. Your issue
on removing the cap on Medicaid and using
that money along with the excise tax on
rum, is being looked at by our appropriate
task force members.

Dear Representative de Lugo:
Thank you for your letter supporting inclusion of the
territories in the President's comprehensive national health care reform
legislation.
The health care reform package will provide that every
American citizen and legal resident receives the basic benefits
package. The President is still reviewing provision of coverage to
other groups. But please be assured that no individual will lose health
care services currently available.
I am sorry I was unable to meet with the governors of the
U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth
of the Northern Mariana Islands as you suggested. However, the
views of the territories are very well represented by you and the other
delegates whom I have had the opportunity to consult.
Again, thank you for your letter. I look forward to our
continued work together on this important issue.
