Parent Patrol Program Annual Luncheon
per Betsy EBeling
What:
A luncheon to honor parents (and other community mcmbers) who volunteer their
time to help provide safe passage for clementary-age children to and from school.
Parent Patrols also serve to bring communities together, expose youth to caring
adults who serve as role models, and improve communication between the schools
and the communities they serve.
The Parent Patrols are a community-driven effort coordinated by the Chicago
Department of Human Services/Chicago for Youth Office in partnership with the
Chicago Public Schools, local private schools, and the Chicago Police Department's
community policing program. During the 1997-98 school year, almost 400 public
and parochial schools in the City of Chicago participated in the Parent Patrol
Program. Together the Parent Patrol volunteers, CDHS/Chicago for Youth Office
staff, Chicago Public School employees and Chicago Police Officers are working to
make the path safe and clear for our young citizens.
