They are: Susan Henshaw Jones, President and director of the National Building Museum. She is very knowledgeable about the field of architecture and could possibly help with background information, etc. I also wonder if we might consider having the architecture exhibit, which Keith Walker discusses in his minutes from the meeting last Friday, on display at the National Building Museum rather than here at the White House. Perhaps we could have a No special display honoring the awardee this year in the tent the night of the event. Raj Barr-Kumar is the head of AIA and based here in Washington. Raj was born in Sri Lanka and educated in London. He has worked in Hong Kong and taught at University of Kansas, Florida A&M and Howard University. He headed the Legacy Project which built a 500 person shelter for the homeless in New Orleans; the site of the 1997 AIA convention. That project's mission was to provide shelter, drug counseling and job training services through a partnership of public and private entities, spearheaded by local architects. His Legacy Project concept is now being implemented in San Francisco, the site of the 1998 convention and then to Dallas for the 1999 convention. Each city will concentrate on a suitable project, appropriate to the city's needs. He is quoted as saying, "Today's challenges include improving the quality of life in our inner cities and in our communities, providing affordable housing, bringing our cities back from the brink through design." As I mentioned above, these both are people I know and would be delighted to call if we think they might be of help in this project. Both should be invited to the dinner. I look forward to getting together with you to discuss this event and how I might be of assistance in its planning. PRITZKER Noa A. Meyer PM Record Type: Record To: Kim B.
