unedited versions in which Hubbell says first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was
not involved in criminal activity at the law firm where they both worked.

president, but one person in three believes the first lady will leave her
husband once he's

that 51 percent of Americans do not believe Mrs. Clinton's statements that

compared with 39 percent who agree with her.
Unidentified friends of Mrs. Clinton told the magazine that the first lady
has made a clear-cut decision to believe her husband's version of events and not
quiz him very

Clinton family's, she has told allies, the magazine said.
Her friends say Mrs. Clinton has become numb to the continuing allegations
and has muted the initial anger she felt.
The poll revealed that 69 percent of Americans think that Mrs. Clinton mostly
has helped Clinton as a president. Sixty-two percent admire her loyalty to him,
while 27 percent question her judgment in defending him.
Asked how likely it is that Mrs. Clinton will divorce the president after he

Rodham Clinton's legal work for the savings and loan that Susan McDougal once
owned with her former husband, the late James McDougal.
Prosecutors here are trying to determine whether Hillary Clinton, while a
private Arkansas lawyer, assisted a series of fraudulent S&L land transactions
in the mid-
evidence of possible obstruction of justice, including witness tampering,
perjury and document destruction.
In court arguments, prosecutors identified Hillary Clinton as someone who
could be indicted and they alleged that her account to investigators in the
Whitewater investigation had changed over time.
Since then, Whitewater prosecutors have

Susan McDougal, the Clintons' former Whitewater associate, could be key to
whether Hillary Clinton is indicted in the original Whitewater probe of the

In taped prison conversations, Webster Hubbell raised the possibility that
Whitewater prosecutors were investigating Hillary Rodham Clinton for double
billing on her legal work.
The former associate attorney general also suggested it was "highly possible"
that Hillary Clinton once drew up a controversial document in an Arkansas land
deal that is now under investigation.
The tapes also
prosecution witness.
Hubbell also was a cooperating witness after pleading guilty to charges he
had bilked his clients and the Rose Law Firm, where he and Hillary Clinton
worked.
"Is McDougal saying things? Is that what they were asking about?" Schaufele
asked.
Hubbell, apparently recounting a recent session with prosecutors,
in a real estate deal involving his father-in-law, Seth Ward, under
investigation by prosecutors. Hillary Clinton's law firm records indicate she
also may have worked on the deal.
Hubbell suggests prosecutors believe he did the legal work, but that both he
and Hillary Clinton billed the client for it.
"Well, it's pretty clear, at least they are speculating that someone -- I was
doing the work because
some reason, I haven't figured out why, Hillary billed it, my time, as
hers. That's kinda the theory."
