Dear Ruth:
My apologies for not responding earlier to your 23 March 1995
letter urging the appointnment of Tyrone Butler as the Archivist
of the United States. I forwarded your strong recommendation of
Mr. Butler to the White House Office of Personnel as soon as I
received it.
As you by now undoubtedly know, the President has decided to
nominate former Governor Carlen of Kansas for that position.
I appreciate your support of Mr. Butler, and if there are other
positions in which he is interested, please let me know.
