THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
14 December 1995
MEMORANDUM TO
CHRIS JENNINGS
FROM
HAROLD ICKES
RE
Medicare rates for hospices
Hugh Westbrook, who is very close to the President and this
Administration, called me yesterday about the Medicare rates for
hospices. According to him, the House bill pertaining to this
issue was on target. Apparently the House bill carved out
hospices as an exception to the general reduction in
reimbursement rates under Medicare.
According to him, however, the Senate bill "unraveled" this
issue and he has asked that the Administration do whatever it can
in order to ensure that the House version with respect to this
issue prevails.
Please call so we can discuss.
