NATIVE VILLAGE OF HOOPER BAY P.O. BOX 41 HOOPER BAY, ALASKA 99604 PH.(907)758-4915 FX.(907)758-4066 October 9, 1998 Honorable William J. Clinton President of the United States 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington D.C. 20500 RE: Appropriations rider blocking federal regulations that would protect Alaska subsistence fishing on the federal public lands Dear President Clinton, On behalf of the Native Village of Hooper Bay a Federally recognized Tribal Government, urgently requests to veto the proposal to extent the moratorium on Federal Management of subsistence fisheries. How many promises are going to be broken by our own National Legislators? This is starting to be liken to a broken record. The indigenous people are regarded as having no say, even it may mean their own livelihood is in jeopardy. With the State of Alaska not recognizing the Federal Tribal Governments - how far do you think this will get towards a fair hearing with the Republican led State Legislator? Thank You for your help and vote. Sincerely, 300 ln Bosco Olson - - President Native Village of Hooper Bay CC. Lynn Cutler, Office of Intergovernmental Affairs
