FOIA Number: 2013-0661-F (2) FOIA MARKER This is not a textual record. This is used as an administrative marker by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library Staff. Collection/Record Group: Clinton Presidential Records Subgroup/Office of Origin: National Service Series/Staff Member: Rick Allen Subseries: OA/ID Number: 2149 FolderID: Folder Title: Society for Non-Profits Stack: Row: Section: Shelf: Position: S 66 2 2 2 The Society For Nonprofit Organizations 6314 Odana Rd., Suite 1 Madison, WI 53719 (608) 274-9777 May 13, 1993 file- materials? There \ Eli Segal Director of National Service Old Executive Office Building, Room 145 Washington, DC 20500 S. Dear Mr. Segal, Thank you for your recent mailing of the National Service Trust Act legislation. The Society applauds the leadership President Clinton has provided in this area and we support the principles embodied in President Clinton's proposal. We especially are happy to see that President Clinton would build the National Service program upon the existing, decentralized national service network that has provided leadership for many years. Additionally, the bipartisan Board you are suggesting that would govern the Corporation for National Service builds on the success of the Commission on National and Community Service. We hope that this governing model will be applied to many more government initiatives and programs. The Society, through our publications to members, is happy to share information on the National Service Trust Act and any other information on service flowing from your office. Since one of the primary focuses of the Society is the promotion and facilitating of collaborative efforts within the nonprofit sector, it is our hope that this will be a theme supported by your office as support clearinghouses and training and technical assistance are developed. The process of selecting and funding programs should support and encourage collaborative efforts. And where collaboration is still relatively untried, provide training and technical assistance to facilitate it's exploration. I have enclosed some materials on the Society and have placed you on our mailing list to receive them on a regular basis. Mr. Segal, we in the nonprofit community cheer the creation of your office and encourage and support your efforts in fully integrating service into every aspect of the American experience. Sincerely, Katin Burnhan Katie Burnham Executive Director
