YOUTH
SERVICE
AMERICA
Thank you so much
for your interest in Youth Service America. YSA is an independent, not-for-
profit organization that promotes and supports youth service programs
throughout the United States. YSA's mission is to stengthen the ethic of service
in America by helping to develop and sustain a national network of quality
service programs that provide young people of all ages and backgrounds with
opportunities to begin a lifelong commitment to community improvement and
civic participation.
We work with an ever expanding field of local programs, regional groups and
national organizations to bring youth service to the forefront of the national
agenda. The effort is carried out through national and regional conferences;
national replication projects like the Youth Volunteer Corps of America; YSA's
Working Group on Youth Service Policy; and National Youth Service Day, our
annual public awareness campaign to educate people from all walks of life about
the power and potential of youth service. Our Affiliates Program keeps national
and state organizations, local practitioners, youth service professionals and
others interested in youth service up-to-date with local, regional and national
developments in the field, and offers excellent benefits to members. YSA's Youth
Action Council brings together young leaders in the field to formulate strategies
for involving more young people in service. The program also provides young
people with an opportunity to work closely with YSA staff on National Projects
and to gain valuable experience in leadership and program implementation.
YSA's New Generation Training Program provides leadership and management
training for young professionals in the youth service field.
Through these and many other dynamic projects, we hope to continue to build
the youth service movement from the bottom up as well as the top down.
Enclosed is more information regarding these and other exciting efforts.
Again, thank you for your interest in Youth Service America. Please feel free to
contact Paula Mitchell at 202/296-2992 if you have any questions or need further
assistance.
