ALRP AIDS ALRP Seeks Executive Director LEGAL REFERRAL PANEL AIDS Legar Referral Panel was founded in 1983 to serve the legal needs of people with AIDS or with HIV-related legal problems. Legal crises pose a threat to the quality of life of people who also face serious health problems. ALRP helps clients focus on their health needs by assisting them with solutions to 114 Sansome St. Suite 1129 legal problems. CA 94104 (415) 291-5454 Last year, ALRP responded to more than 3,000 requests for legal assistance; seventy percent of the clients were indigent. ALRP helps people living with HIV by writing wills and durable powers of attorney An independent for health care, fighting unfair evictions and employment discrimination, handling tax problems and non-profit organization supported by resolving public and private insurance and benefit disputes. ALRP also fights for the rights of people with Bay Area Lawyers HIV through its public policy and advocacy work. for Individual Freedom (BALIF) and Volunteer Legal Services Program of The staff of 10 (including 3 attorneys) coordinates the pro bono services of more than 500 attorneys the Bar Association and other legal professionals, conducts training for volunteer attorneys and engages in a variety of client of San Francisco outreach services. (VLSP/BASF) The Executive Director has responsibility for a broad range of ALRP activities, reporting to the ALRP Board of Directors. The Executive Director will: -represent ALRP to the media and general public, by issuing press releases, giving interviews and speaking out on AIDS legal and civil rights issues; -oversee fiscal management of the organization, create monthly financial reports, develop an annual budget, ensure that audit and tax reports are prepared and that foundation and government reporting requirements are met; -oversee fundraising and development, including special events, grant applications, charitable giving and other development efforts; -supervise staff attorneys and monitor referrals to volunteer attorneys and other legal services; -oversee HIV public policy and advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels. Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to advocate for a community-based organization in an era of shrinking resources. Substantial administrative and supervisory experience is required. Fundraising and fiscal management experience is also essential. Experience in the provision of legal services for the indigent is highly desirable, as is familiarity regarding HIV-related legal and policy issues. Sensitivity to the needs of people living with HIV disease is a must. A J.D. or equivalent degree is required.
