Over 2 million refugees who Sled the conflict in Rwanda remain in the neighboring countries of Tanzania, Baire, Uganda, and Bururdi. Intimidation by former Rwandan government troops in the refugee camps and concerns about security inside Rwanda have slowed repatriation to & trickle. Inter-ethnic tension between Hutus and Tutsis continues to prevent the quarter of 2 million remaining Burundi refugees from returning home and has led recently to new outflows of Burundians fleeing to neighboring countries. This new funding reaffirms our commitment to assist the ongoing humanitarian relief effort. It will be made available to international organizations providing critical relief in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Saire, and Uganda as follows: United Nations High Commissioner tor Refugees $16 million The World Food Program $ 5 million The International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Socities $ 8 million The International Organization for Migration $ 1 million This will bring the U.S. assistance since April to approximately $230 million.
