SUBJECT:
Letter to Speaker Hastert Concerning the
"Armenian Genocide" Resolution
Purpose
Express to Speaker Hastert the reasons behind the
Administration's strong opposition to H. Res. 596, dealing with
the "Armenian genocide" in Ottoman Turkey in the years
1915-1923.
Background
The Resolution is likely to come up for a vote before the full
House in the near future. If it passes, the United States'
relations with Turkey, a key NATO ally, will likely suffer.
Your letter expresses deep concern about consideration of the
resolution at this time, and urges Speaker Hastert not to bring
it to the floor.
RECOMMENDATION
That you sign the letter at Tab A.
