BAFFIN ISLAND TRIP
1927
-
JUNE 22- Wednesday - Brigus Newpoundland.
Up about 6:30. Light rain falling. Preparations to set
out. Everyone down on the dock by 9 o'clock. Helped Maurice with
his movie camera- many scenes of the MORRISSEY in dock, etc. Upon
the rocks to get view of her pulling out from the dock- should be
very good pictures. G.P., Maurice and I joined her in a launch. We
set out in a good breeze; heavy work for all hands hoisting the sails.
JUNE 23- Thursday
At night we came within inches of Belle Isle, hidden by
fog.
JUNE 24- Friday
Awakened about 1:30 by shouts on deck, engine then
stopped and soon the whole ship was shaken by a sudden shock under
the bow. Thought we were at least piled up on the Labrador coast.
Pulled on pants and rushed on deck to find it was only ice-- large
cakes of it on all sides. Very slow going through it. A cold,
bad day.
JUNE 25- Saturday
Up at 7 o'clock. Clear, calm day ; bright and cold. Among
