ASSISTANT SECRETARY.
NAVY DEPARTMENT,
WASHINGTON.
June 7, 1897.
Lieut. R. E. Peary, U. S. N.,
Navy Yard, Brooklyn, N. Y.
My dear Mr. Peary:
I have received both your
letters. It was a great pleasure to do
anything I could for you; and I earnestly
wish you the best of luck, not only for
your sake, but for that of the Navy and the
nation.
I am going to show your letter about
the way of employing Civil Engineers to
as
the Secretary, which seems to me to be very
important.
