The Columbian Exposition and 1492 World's Fair Illustrated. 1893 In presenting this Prospectus of "The Columbian Exposition and World's Fair Illustrated," it is our desire to call your attention to the great value it will possess as a book of authority, accuracy, and reference in regard to our Country, and the greatest exhibition the world has ever seen. Independent of our desire to make this work a grand success, we wish also to disseminate knowledge in reference to Institutions, and the men, who have attained prominence in professional, political, commercial and manufacturing life. The illustrations are designed to give some idea of leading institutions of the respective states, and of the beauties and greatness of our country. Engravings of the principal Exposition buildings, with descriptions also a review of the Acts of Congress, and of the several states relative to appropriations, etc., will be embodied. It will contain the latest census returns of population, manufacturing Industries, etc., making it most instructive, interesting and profitable reading. The space devoted to each city is necessarily limited, and we propose taking only a small number of institutions, professional and business men, and prominent Government, State and Municipal officials. Our aim is to have this work surpass all others ever published, and the engravings, press work, paper, binding etc., will be of the best quality. The accurate data which we publish will render the work of National interest, and we ask you to co-operate with us in showing to the world what a Magnificent Country we have. The work will not contain any advertisements under any circumstances or at any price. The book for each state will be taken separately, and handsomely bound, containing from 300 to 400 pages, II" X 14" inches. The portrait engavings will be 3" X 3" inches. Engravings of buildings may be of any size to suit the wishes of those interested. As an authoritative work of reference as well as being exceedingly inter- esting and handsome, we have no hesitancy in believing it will surpass anything of the kind heretofore attempted. Material for Biographical Sketch. While we possess facilities for securing biographies, it will be necessary for us to depend greatly on the parties, whose portraits we shall publish, to supply us with the necees- sary material and information from which to make a concise and interesting sketch of their life and business career. The above mentioned data should accompany photograph, or be forwarded at the earliest convenience. The Columbian Engraving and Publishing Co. 1330 Arch Street, Philadelphia, Pa.
