The Sons of an Eagle-Bird Dedicated to the Wright Brothers By ARTHUR GUITERMAN (Air- The Son of a Gambolier ") As I went down by Kittyhawk to see what I could spy, A frisky whisky thing-um-bob came whizzing down the sky; But when across the mountain-top the creature took its flight I knew it was an orville-bird or else a wilbur-wright. Says I to him, "My bonny bird, I want an interview: So tell me all about yourself and what you mean to do." He answered me politely, as he wunk his eagle eye, "The birds that talk are parrots-and they don't soar very high." Chorus: He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a Soaring Hawk; He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a Soaring Hawk. He's much too busy flying to spare the time to talk, He's the man that skims the Milky Way and the son of a Soaring Hawk! He's long and lank and weather-worn, or words to that effect, And when he builds an aeroplane he builds it double-decked. He's not a bird you'd care to see served hot upon a plate, But when it comes to flying, he's the bird that's simply great! Then boast of Santos-Dumont or Curtiss if you please, Or Farman, White, or Blériot, who rode the Channel breeze; For flying high or flying far they all are famous now- But don't forget that Mister Wright's the man that showed 'em how! Chorus: He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of an Eagle-Bird; He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of an Eagle-Bird. He tries his wings in private before he says a word, He's the man that rules the roads of air and the son of an Eagle-Bird! So here's to Brother Wilbur and Brother Orville, too! While all the nations stared amazed they spread their planes and flew; They've learned to fly SO well, they say, that Wilbur's built a nest, And Brother Orville goes to roost when others go to rest! Chorus: He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a Turtle-Dove; He's the son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a, son of a Turtle-Dove- Of all the fowls of heaven the only one we love, He's a Spangled Bird-of-Paradise and the son of a Turtle-Dove!
