O!Peary, We re W eary! (BY JAMES BARTON ADAMS.) O Peary ! O Peary ! you're making us weary With howlings of "gold brick" and "fake," Your soul is in trouble through fear Cook may gobble A slice of the polaric cake. Pray keep your fur shirt on and cease piling dirt on The name of a rival till he His record produces to meet your abuses- Don't bark, like a dog, up a tree. The day may be nearing when all of your sneering May do a sore boomering stunt; Fly backward with vigor and sadly disfigure Your lordly and arrogant front. Your wireless abuses may yet serve as nooses To circle your noise spouting throat: When Cook tells his story the proofs of his glory May get your discovery goat. We doubt not you found it, danced gleefully 'round it, And stuck the flagstaff in the snow, But proofs may be thrown us-convincingly shown us- That Cook saw it first, don't ye know. Your hammer cease swinging, let up on mud slinging, And let the world judge 'twixt the two, And if your aspersions prove truthful assertions We'll throw all our bouquets to you.
