FAMA SEMPER VIVAT
Worth makes the man, or want of it the fellow.-POPE
I'D like to "put one over" like our dear old Doctor Cook;
Make "stacks of coin" by lecturing and write a thrilling
Of "purple snows" and "dog eat dog" and all that kind of
Until the waning interest proves the Public's had enough.
To "rig" the King of Denmark must be really lots of fun;
Collect about a "hundred thou," then "beat it" on the run.
To get Commander Peary's "goat" and have him "rise" SO
He looks just like a satellite away up in the sky;
Receive Bill Taft's acknowledgment, gold medals by the scor
Receptions at the large hotels and "eats" and "drinks" galo
At any rate, when one's found out and epithets are hurl'd,
One knows at least that one's the greatest liar in the world.
But one thing more I envy him, if only for a day,
And that's the Aldermanic Key to "Little Old Broadway."
