TATE WOMEN IN STATE ELECTIVE POSITIONS (including WOMEN IN STATE LEGISLATURES - Page 4 ) Forty-ore women in 23 States currently serve in State-wide elective posi- tions. This is an increase of eleven seat S over 1958, or a spurt of almost 37%. Alabama leads, showing five women in these top posts. Texas follows with four. Ohio and Kentucky show three. GHT vd Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Dakota and Wyoming can each boast a pair of State-wide elected women officials. The remaining States, which have sent one woman apiece to high office are: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
