Forty-ore women in 23 States currently serve in State-wide elective posi-
tions. This is an increase of eleven seat S over 1958, or a spurt of almost 37%.
Alabama leads, showing five women in these top posts. Texas follows with
four. Ohio and Kentucky show three.

Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, South Dakota and
Wyoming can each boast a pair of State-wide elected women officials.
The remaining States, which have sent one woman apiece to high office
are: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland,
Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
The political breakdown of these office-holders is:
